CCR Wine Tasting: The Excellence of Pinot Noir - November 11, 2017

As a follow-up to the last CCR wine tasting, we continue our Pinot Nero adventure. We will taste quality wines ranging from the traditional Pinot Noir vineyards in the north to a surprising tasting from the south.

Grown primarily in the cool higher-altitude vineyards of the North, it is the terroir that makes Pinot Nero ‘Italian.’ Pinot Nero is a notoriously difficult grape to grow. Despite this, wines from the Pinot Nero grape are among the most awarded and respected.

Where: Residence of CCR member in the Balduina/Roma Cavalieri (former Hilton) area - exact address will be sent to registered participants.
When: Saturday, November 11, 2017
Time: 7 p.m.
Cost:  €25 for members (€35 for non-members)
RSVP to Linda and Paul by Wednesday November 8, at Please note that you are responsible for your reservation.

Each session is given in French and Italian and focuses on a specific theme relative to Italian wines. After the tasting is complete, a light dinner will be served.

Daniele Maestri, well-known Italian sommelier and a favorite among CCR members for his knowledgeable and lively presentations, will again lead this lecture and wine-tasting. For those interested in ‘wining and dining’, Daniele writes in-depth articles on Italian wines and food for “Bibenda – Vini D’Italia” produced by the Italian Sommelier Foundation and he is a major contributor to their wine guide.

CCR Book Club - October 18, 2017

The book for the October meeting is "Life after Life" by British author Kate Atkinson. This award-winning historical fiction is a long read, so it’s best to start on it early. The novel revolves around the protagonist, Ursula Todd, and the various and contrasting paths her life could take through various compelling moments in the last century. The Guardian review says the novel "can be read as a book about writing (very fashionable) and about how the author, who holds all the cards, can manipulate the characters."

When: Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Piazza Bologna area; exact address sent to confirmed participants by email.
Potluck Dinner: Please RSVP letting Luigi know what dish you will be preparing for 6 people.
